It is a great pleasure to welcome you to this year’s joint annual meeting of SMOB and SGED, taking place for the first time in the beautiful city of Lucerne on November 14–15.
This year marks a special moment for our society: we have officially changed our name from the Swiss Society for the Study of Morbid Obesity and Metabolic Disorders to the Swiss Multiprofessional Obesity Society (SMOB). This change reflects what we have always stood for – an inclusive, interdisciplinary community of professionals dedicated to understanding and treating obesity in all its complexity.
While bariatric surgery has long been one of the most effective treatment options, SMOB was never a purely surgical society. With the emergence of new medical therapies and a growing emphasis on integrated care models, it’s clearer than ever that tackling obesity requires collaboration across disciplines.
With that spirit, we warmly invite all colleagues – from medicine, surgery, psychology, nutrition, nursing, and beyond – to join us in shaping the future of obesity care in Switzerland. Our scientific program is multiprofessional, thoughtfully curated, and features outstanding national and international speakers.
We look forward to engaging discussions, fresh perspectives, and continued collaboration to improve care for our patients and strengthen our shared mission.

As part of its Swiss Obesity Academy, the SMOB regularly organizes webinars specially designed for members and interested experts.
These online events offer you the possibility to get information about and discuss current topics related to obesity medicine.
The webinars are free of charge and offer participants who are required to do further training the chance to acquire further training points (credits).
